The reality is, 80% of New Year’s Resolutions fail by February. Are you going to commit to your resolution this year and stick to it or are you going to become one of those four out of five that give up in 30 days or less?
Commit to a healthier you in 2018. New year – new you!
How to Stay Committed to Your New Year’s Resolution
Here are some of the best tips for ensuring you’ll see your resolution through.
1. Set smaller, manageable goals.
Don’t commit to work out 7 days per week if you’re not currently working out at all. You’ll be more successful if you start small.
2. Build an accountability group.
Whether it’s your spouse, your best friend, or your boss, designate an accountability partner to talk to about your goal. Your partner will ensure you’re working toward your goal throughout the year.
3. Don’t make several changes at once.
If your resolution is to be healthier, don’t cut out all carbs and sugar, exercise stringently, and cut alcohol from your diet all at the same time. You’re destined to fail if you completely change your routine on January 1st. Baby steps.
4. Celebrate the small wins.
If you lose a single pound, drop 1 pant size, or find you have more energy once, that’s a win! Celebrate each win so you can keep yourself motivated.
5. Remind yourself it’s a journey, not a destination.
Even if your goal is to lose x pounds, you’ll still be on a journey once you do lose that weight. If you don’t stick with your healthier regimen, the weight will come back.
6. Give Yourself Grace.
Do not beat yourself up if you miss a day at the gym or end up with one extra cheat meal in a week. You’re looking toward a new lifestyle, and it’s okay to give yourself a little grace as you make the transition.
7. Ask for Help!
If you find you’re struggling, ask for support! No man is an island, and transitioning to a new lifestyle is certainly no exception.
8. Join a Local Gym
Take the first step toward keeping your promise to yourself and join a gym, yoga studio, or boot camp group. You’re less likely to quit when you have a financial commitment and/or an accountability group. There are numerous options in the Celina and surrounding areas – from pilates to Crossfit, from a traditional gym to Fit Chicks (a boot camp for women only).
Make sure to pick something that’s fun for you. I know many people that love traditional weight lifting, but I personally thrive in a boot camp atmosphere. Others prefer Crossfit, and others still love yoga or pilates. Do something you enjoy, and it won’t feel like a chore!
